In Upton, Wyoming we are celebrating the 2019 Economic Development Week, which is May 6 through the 11th. This is a week to celebrate the efforts being made to grow our economy and enhance the quality of life for residents.
What is Economic Development?
According to the International Economic Development Council, it is the intentional practice of improving a community's economic well-being and quality of life. It includes a broad range of activities to attract and grow business and jobs, and to foster a resilient, pro-growth tax base and an inclusive economy. It encompasses a collaborative effort involving industry, government and myriad community stakeholders.
Why Economic Development Week is important?
Economic Development Week was created by the International Economic Development Council. The IEDC created the week in 2016 to create awareness surrounding economic development programs and initiatives that create jobs and opportunities for individuals and businesses throughout the country. In the past three years, there have been campaigns in all 50 states - more than 450 campaigns total. Creating this awareness is important, especially since funds for economic development often come through federal and state grants and other funding mechanisms.
Economic Development Week in Upton, Wyoming is an opportunity to articulate the importance of economic development efforts here and recognize the many people who helped to make them possible. This week we wish to recognize you, and other stakeholders like you, who are a part of Economic Development in Upton, Weston County, and the State of Wyoming! #EDW2019
